May 2023: cultivating Joy. starts Tuesday, May 2nd
Welcome to the journey to your heart space. This month's inquiry is invites us to breakdown any walls that exits between our heartspace and other parts of ourselves. This month of inquiry builds to backbends, preparing and strengthening the back side of the body (posterior chain) to support posture, confidence and ease in opening the energetic heart and tapping into more joy. Check out the weekly themes below.
Week 1: Foundation - Meeting the Heart
An introduction to heart chakra, and exploration of our current definitions of joy and the ways we experience joy. Physical practice will center on the solar traditional of **Surya Namaskara**, sun salutations, and include muscle action drills that we will use throughout the series to support safe and courageous back-bending through the month.
Week 2: gratitude
This week continues to build into backbends as we explore a gratitude practice for ourselves, our community and what we have.
Week 3: softening compartments
What are we consuming and creating that separates us from the joy we could experience? This week movement is focused on revolved postures as we consider what pursuing joy is asking us to release.
Week 4: releasing judgement
Our final week brings all the inquiry together, allowing us to expand our definition of our and how we can experience it as the absence of judgment.
About tiered pricing:
We believe in honoring the value of teaching and offering a practice that is accessible. Our tiered pricing system is self-determined. In deciding which price feels most appropriate to you, consider your social location (proximity to power and privilege), so that we can collectively move towards equity. If you are relatively stable financially, please pay the standard price. If you need to pay less for any reason, we encourage you to pay the community price.

The Connective is the space where my passion for Yoga meets community power. I am forever grateful for the teachers and community I get to share this work with, creating change in the wellness industry, bravely and collaboratively.
While I found empowerment and refuge in Yoga for over 15 years of practice, I also realized I wasn’t reflected in predominantly white spaces, first as a student, and then as a teacher. I believe that Yoga is a liberation practice, dependent on liberation of BIPOC, but I did not see that being upheld in dominant studio culture. As an extension of my practice and this belief, I created Yuja Soul, Yoga for Black Women, and I devote my offerings to The Conenective’s mission as a teacher and Steward.
My special sauce is my passion for Yoga philosophy, and its intersection with social justice. My classes aim to serve as a brave space, and are known for their physical and mental rigor centered on the power of Pranayama, Bandhas and Mantra, and filled with spacious self-inquiry. And sometimes, in that longer than usual Chair or Chaturanga hold (wiiink), there’s humour, wisdom, and most importantly, loving encouragement and community.
